Mac Tae

Dontae Mathis (born June 24, 1977) known by his stage name Mac Tae, is an American rapper, entrepreneur from E.Saint Louis. He is credited along side fellow Saint Louis-based rappers, Murphy Lee from the multi platinum selling group Nelly & the Saint Lunatics who is no stranger to creating music for world wide and mainstream audiences.

Mac Tae began his career in the early 90’s after meeting a rap duo called the Regulators which consisted of Marquis Gibson (MC Def) and Adrian Wright (Homicidal MC) . Regulators were finishing up on their professional project entitled “Get Ready For Hell” and were in the promotional process when Mac Tae joined the team. It wasn’t long before the trio were releasing underground mixtapes and playing at local venues. Mac Tae recalls daily drives around town in Marquis’s blue 63 Impala constructing raps with the Regulators  music blasting from a boombox he clutched from the backset because there was no sound system in the car.  In July of 1992 M.C. Death died from medical difficulties (may he rest in peace).

The blow devastated Mac Tae and Mr. Wright, but they used the experience to motivate themselves to push harder towards success.  Mac Tae eventually created Like Dat Ent. an Independent Recording Label with 3 producers, and 2 artist. As the label gained momentum Mac Tae a fan of hispanic culture expanded the brand adding 2 additional producers and 3 more artist to form Like Dat Latino. Like Dat artist have performed or been opening acts for such artist as Too Short, E40, Lil Flip, C-Bo, Messy Marv, Baby Bash, Tech N9NE, Brotha Lynch Hung and more. Mac Tae (CEO/Artist Manager) would eventually Executively produce several street mixtapes featuring artists on the label. Eventually Mac’s drive and motivation through his love of music led him to feature on such trax with Spice 1, Brotha Lynch Hung, San Quinn, Suga T, Luni Coleone, DJ Chill and more.

In 2010 Mac Tae connected with Stockton artist C-Lim to co-produce and release “All Black Everything MixTape” hosted by Ukrainian-American Journalist DJ. Vlad. C-Lim and Mac Tae, followed up with releasing a RUN DMC tribute mixtape as well as a Mix Tape titled “Verse Knoccs” under C-Walk Music Hosted By: Brotha Lynch Hung, where Mac Tae is also featured.

Fast forward to  2024 Mac Tae is still supporting artist with development and production while releasing possibly his final project 2 Seata Featuring Murphy Lee. Stay tuned for more Mac Tae news.
